America’s Mayors Launch Campaign Against Effort to Strip States’ Power to Set Requirements for Carrying Concealed Guns
September 7, 2011
Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a bipartisan coalition of more than 600 U.S. mayors, has launched a national campaign against legislation in the U.S. House that would eliminate every state’s right to setminimum standards for carrying a loaded, concealed firearm within its borders.
The campaign’s website, OurLivesOurLaws.org, showcases the broad public opposition to H.R. 822, the National Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act. Major police, prosecutor and anti-domestic violence organizations oppose this bill because it would endanger police officers and undermine states’ efforts to keep their communities safe. Mayors Against Illegal Guns is urging concerned citizens to take action and tell Congress to reject this bill by signing the petition at OurLivesOurLaws.org.
